It has been so long since I have posted an update. A lot has happened, most if it mundane, and I have been distracted. I thought I would just give a quick studio update.
-Though the surgery I had back in January did help me a lot, I have still been having issues with fatigue and body pain. I have given up, for the time being, on trying to get a diagnosis. It's one of those ambiguous conditions that could mean a lot of things. Overall, my health is better, but I sometimes am still just too tired to do a lot. This has drastically affected my productivity in the studio.
-I just sent off some art magnets I made for the Vegan Craft Samples Earth Day bags. I did not get as many made as I'd hoped, but they were great fun, and I will probably be offering them for sale in my Artfire studio, eventually. Each magnet is a one of a kind, miniature mixed media piece. These particular ones were nature-focused, as they are for an Earth Day promotion.
-I've been helping my boyfriend shoot his latest video in fits and starts. We have been working on it since December, with a lot of interruptions. It's going well, and I think it's going to be a great video, but finding the time to shoot has been really difficult, with my surgery, his recent illness, both of our other projects, and trying to pin down other people to appear in the video. This is how it goes, though. The end product will definitely be worth it, and I have learned a whole lot, since I'm taking a more active role in shooting this video.
-My writing projects are pretty much on hold/moving at the speed of molasses right now. I have sketched out some ideas for Book Project #3, and I've inquired here and there about freelance work, but I have not done too much. I still need to get the short story for my friend's screenplay read. I am hoping to do that very soon. My friend is not in a hurry to get this project done, but it would be fun to start working on it! As for Book Projects #1 and #2, I am feeling very, very stuck. I am really hoping to be able to take at least one writing class this Spring/Summer. Maybe that will give me a kick-start with those two projects. They are completely compiled, and I have spotted at least one contest to which to submit one or both manuscripts. The place where I am stuck is in how to arrange the individual poems. Both books are giving me fits in that area. I'm sure I will figure it out...eventually.
-After a very quiet Winter, things are starting to pick up. I have custom orders on deck and inquiries coming in. Some things will pan out, and some won't. That's the nature of this business, and that is OK.
-I have made the decision to move my vintage items out of their current home and to give them a try on Artfire. Nothing huge happened. I still like Atomic Mall plenty and will be leaving Jennifer's Closet there. They have just made a few changes that I feel won't help my business. The changes were made with the best of intentions, and Atomic Mall is still a wonderful venue, but I feel it is not for beginner/small time businesses like mine. I get far more traffic over at Artfire, so I feel I may have more success there. Needless to say, this is pretty time-consuming. I've been moving things over just a couple or a few at a time. If all goes well at Artfire, I will make that a Pro studio. I just need to give it a little time, as money is tight for me right now.
-I have not been able to get an update on the situation with SHARE in West Virginia. I just sent an email through their web site. If I do not hear anything, I will contact the woman from whom I got the original info. Last I had read a while back, some people had started to step forward, but she was in need of permanent volunteers/staff to do administrative things and help take care of the animals. I hope to have some new news to share soon.
That is really all I can think to relate. I wish this had been a more interesting post. I also want to take a second to welcome my new blog followers! Thanks for the support!
