Wow. It has been a while since I've updated this page. That does not mean nothing has been happening.

The screenplay. My friend's and my plans are constantly in flux. We have been kicking some ideas around, going to workshops, and sharing information; however, there is still no actual writing happening yet. We are both very busy with other things, for one thing. In addition, I can't speak for him, but I can say that I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed by the whole idea. There are three projects in which I'm very interested; however, the whole tracking-down-the-rights thing seems like a massive endeavor. The important thing is we are still talking and thinking about it. I am certainly learning a lot!

The historical book is now available for sale! I felt so proud when I went to the committee's celebration and finally held my copy in my hands. It looks really great, and it was challenging but fun to work on. Plus, it's a book! I wrote part of it! What's not to be excited about? :)

My chapbooks have been on the back burner for a while, but as the craft show season winds down, I'll be focusing back on that. Meanwhile, I will share the following:

Salt

I bring life to the Altar,
And I give thanks,
Though I may not always recognize my Blessings.

I salt the Waters,
I bring life to the Altar.
I give thanks.

The Water and the Salt
Are my Blessings,
For they give me life,
They bring me balance.
I give thanks.

My Blessings are Salt and Water,
For they flow through my veins.
They feed me and sustain me.
I give thanks.

I am Salt.
I am Water.
I am the Altar.
I am my Blessing.
I give thanks.

The screenplay is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality.  Though my collaborator and I have not sat down to hammer out the ugly details, we attended a talk yesterday, which was very enlightening.  I'm ready to start a project binder, so that I can keep track of all of my notes, my manuscript, and any other paperwork that my collaborator and I generate.  We both want this to move forward, but we both have day jobs, so it's off to a slow start.  I'm ready to research the film rights, however, and to start writing.

Meanwhile, I have handed off my chapter for the historic book project, along with my part of the book's introduction, to our coordinator (we are a committee.)  I have a few details missing from my chapter, so I'm going to touch base with my working partner and see if she has any ideas.  What I handed off was 90% complete, though, and I was 90% happy with it.  I am keeping myself available to help out with anything the coordinator needs as he pulls the manuscript together (no easy task, as there were about 12 of us working on the book!)  Having finished up my portion of the book has freed up a lot of time, but that time is filling up quickly!

For this week, I have a blog post due, and I will be covering an event on Sunday, 3/20/11, about which I am very excited.  I expect that article to come together quickly, because I have written on the topic in question before (body modification.)  The event will be fun, and having discussed things with the founder has been really invigorating!

The article I spoke of back in February has been shelved for now.  The outlet is restructuring how information flows to the main site, so I am focusing more on reporting for my local area. The article was on something broader, and to be honest, it was a topic out of my scope of experience. I was struggling with it.  I volunteered, because no one else had, and I do enjoy a challenge, but I think it was not the right assignment for me.  If my editor asks me to pick it back up, I will, but I suspect it will go to someone with more experience in that area.

It looks like I will be returning to one of my old publications, Moondance, as a section editor.  I have been talking with the site owner about it, and she has walked me through the process;  however, I still have some questions.  I have also let her know that, due to this week's work load, I will not be able to do anything until next week.

My own projects--the two chapbooks and my other book project--are, sadly, on hold for now, but they are never far from my thoughts or my fingertips. I will find time here and there to work on them.  It just feels good to be taking on writing assignments again!

Well, some things change and some don't.

The chapter I was working on with my committee colleague is now two chapters!  We are making good progress, though, and meeting about twice a week.  Tonight, we have another all-hands meeting.  We are having some issues with finding a good cover photo.  We chose one last month, but the publisher turned it down, saying the quality of the photo was not quite up to par (it wouldn't enlarge well.)  Back to the drawing board.  I imagine that will be a main topic of discussion tonight.

I have not made the progress I'd hoped with my chapbook, but I will be back to it in a week or so.

I finished the story I'm supposed to adapt.  Next time I'm on my writing rotation, I'll start working on the actual writing.

Finally, I have picked up a pretty big assignment for a reporting outlet with which I volunteer.  I've got some background info for it. Now, I need to check in with my editor and start to get input from people involved with the issue.  I believe my deadline is around the 18th of this month, but the editor will clarify that for me.

There's always way too much to do, but it's so gratifying!
